This is the shocking moment a tourist's knee was struck by a passing train, nearly killing him at a notorious landmark in Vietnam.

Visitors were taking selfies and watching the locomotive at the popular spot when the man's leg was hit by a metal piece protruding from the carriage connection at Hanoi Train Street.

Footage shows the holidaymaker sitting beside the tracks, enjoying the scene, when he suddenly collapsed from pain as the metal clipped him.

He toppled over, even reaching out and touching the side of the train with his phone still in hand.

His friends quickly dragged him away, causing one of the chairs to tumble onto the rails and get pulled under the carriages.

Another cafe customer was recording herself on the popular spot when the near-death experience happened five chairs away from her.

Her facial expression changed from happy to scared and then shocked before she finally stopped recording during the commotion.

The notorious destination was closed in October 2022 due to the number of visitors risking injury by posing for selfies as trains rolled past and complaints from shopkeepers.

However, Train Street opened again and is now semi-regulated to attempt to prevent congestion and accidents - like those seen in the video.
