GREENHILLS, Ohio — An unexpected visitor was seen roaming through the Village of Greenhills early Wednesday morning — a black bear.

According to the Greenhills Police Department, officers on routine patrol observed the bear on the Commons. Its last known location was behind Our Lady of the Rosary Church on Farragut Road. The sighting has been reported to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.

Black bears are a protected species in Ohio, and authorities are urging residents not to approach or attempt to corner the animal. Instead, they advise observing from a distance and making loud noises to encourage the bear to leave the area.

“Your safety—and the bear’s—is our priority,” police said in a statement. Residents are encouraged to remain alert while walking outdoors and to immediately report any new sightings to local authorities.
