At around 5:00 p.m. on July 8, the ceiling on the B1 level of the Xicheng Tiandi shopping mall in Chongqing suddenly collapsed. Fragments of the ceiling and sewage poured down, leaving the scene in complete disarray.

The mall management responded by stating that the incident was caused by extreme rainfall, which led to damage in some of the mall's public pipelines.

Following the incident, Longfor Chongqing Xicheng Tiandi released a statement saying that no injuries were reported and emergency repairs were underway. Mall staff said that the area had been restored after emergency repairs, and overall mall operations were not significantly affected.

At 4:50 p.m. that afternoon, the Chongqing Meteorological Observatory issued a "Yellow Rainstorm Warning," indicating a high risk of rainstorm-related disasters.
