Kilauea, United States - July 10, 2025 On July 10, USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory field engineers visited monitoring stations downwind of the eruptive vents at the summit of Kīlauea. The engineers were forced to wear snowshoes as they navigated the terrain. The large footprint of the snowshoes allowed them to stay on top of the frothy pumice rather than sinking through it. Video recorded during the visit shows the aftermath of the eruptive episodes and the challenging conditions in the area.
