US, Phoenix: Phoenix 79th Avenue HOV Bridge Extrication Crash
Phoenix, United States - November 19, 2025 11/18/2025 11:20 pm GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a trooper observed a black Dodge Challenger driving approximately 130 mph westbound on Interstate 10 near 51st Avenue around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday. When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, the driver refused to yield, and a pursuit was initiated. The suspect led troopers westbound on I-10 for several miles, reaching speeds of over 145 mph. Troopers disengaged from the pursuit on westbound I-10 east of 75th Avenue due to the driver's reckless speed. Moments later, troopers observed from a distance that the vehicle exited the 79th Avenue HOV ramp at a high rate of speed. The Challenger then collided with the wall on the 79th Avenue HOV bridge. Troopers arrived on the scene of the collision and found the male driver trapped inside the car, partially hanging off the bridge. The Phoenix and Tolleson Fire Departments were dispatched to assist. The crew from Phoenix Fire Heavy Rescue 44 conducted a technical rescue operation, stabilizing the vehicle before extricating the driver, which took approximately 25 minutes. The driver was transported by Phoenix FD personnel to a nearby hospital for treatment of severe leg injuries. The Arizona Department of Public Safety closed the bridge for the duration of the extrication and the investigation into the accident.
