GRIEVING MOTHER’S CRYING FOR HELPGAZA, PALESTINE - JULY 13: An Israeli army bombardment targeting the northern Gaza Strip left a 14-year-old Palestinian boy paralyzed after shrapnel struck his head, and he is now fighting for his life under siege. Musab Dibs’ life was turned upside down in early May when a bomb landed near his family’s tent in Gaza City. Family members were also injured, but Musab suffered the most severe wounds. The shrapnel that hit his head left him paralyzed and unable to swallow, leading to severe malnutrition. The heartbreaking difference between his photos before the attack and his current condition shows the extent of his suffering. After the attack, Musab was first taken to the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza. But when Israeli forces besieged the hospital on May 18, he was transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital. For the past 63 days, he has been lying there, almost lifeless. With Gaza’s collapsed healthcare system, he should be in intensive care, yet he is forced to stay in a crowded hall, lying on household mattresses. Musab’s mother, Sihnac Mohammed Said Dibs, feeds him through a syringe. He shows no sign of life except for moving his eyes, and his body has developed sores and infections due to the lack of proper treatment. In tears, his mother said for 63 days, she has been waiting to hear him say ‘mom.’ "I miss hearing this word. He was my only son and used to bring food and water to his family," she said. Pointing out that doctors in Gaza are trying their best with very limited resources, she called for help so that Musab can be treated outside Gaza. His mother appealed to international humanitarian organizations and anyone with a conscience to help save her son’s life. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, killing nearly 57,900 Palestinians so far, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages and the spread of diseases. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
