An influencer who claimed she got behind the wheel while drunk because of unwanted attention at a party due to her 'quasi-celebrity' status has been banned from driving for over two years.

Gabriella Bardsley, daughter of The Real Housewives of Cheshire's Tanya Bardsley and step-daughter of footballer Phil Bardsley, decided to drive home despite being three times over the limit, a court heard.

Ms Bardsley, 23, was driving an Audi A3 when she was stopped by a police patrol in Wilmslow, Cheshire, on Sunday, May 11, at the scene of an ‘unrelated road traffic collision'.

The court heard that the influencer was asked to do a breath test on the roadside as it was apparent she was ‘under the influence'.

Following tests at the roadside and police station, Bardsley was found to be three times the drink drive limit.

She pleaded guilty to one count of drink-driving earlier this year.

Mitigating, Gary Hughes told Crewe magistrates court that said she was only on the way home from the house party because she had had unwanted attention there as a result of her 'quasi-celebrity status'.

Arriving at court on Monday, Bardsley was flanked by an assistant who used an umbrella in an attempt to block cameras from snapping a picture of the influencer, who has over 72,000 followers on Instagram and is rumoured to appear on an upcoming series of Love Island.

Mr Hughes said: "To adopt the phrasing from the pre-sentence report it is a salutary lesson. There is an additional punishment as she is someone who is in the public eye.  "

"Since she pleaded guilty she has been subject to some disparaging remarks across social media and as a sensitive woman it has been a difficult couple of weeks for her."

Bardsley, who has no previous convictions, received a one-year community order including a requirement to do 200 hours of unpaid work.

She received a 29-month driving disqualification, to be reduced by 29 weeks upon the completion of a drink-drive rehabilitation course.

Andrew Waites, the presiding magistrate, said: "You are not going to prison although it was an option."
