Phone shop staff 'steal customer's nudes and share them in groups'
Phone shop staff allegedly stole a female customer's nudes and shared them to online groups.
The employees reportedly extracted the private files in secret from a 22-year-old customer who had her phone repaired at the Studio 7 shop in Phuket, Thailand, on July 16.
The woman, whose name was not disclosed by authorities, said she learned about the leak after discovering someone posing as her on the Tinder dating app.
Among the impostor's photos were pictures of her breasts, which she had sent to her doctor during boob job consultations. As she had never shared the pictures anywhere else, she said she immediately suspected phone shop staff of accessing her data.
The woman filed a police report and lodged a complaint with Studio 7. An investigation found that the alleged culprit was an employee named Siwasan Thanyakan.
Siwasan allegedly received her nudes through the AirDrop function, before distributing them to the other staff on the Telegram App. Five other employees were believed to have been involved.
The furious customer filed a reported at the Wichit Police Station. However, the suspects allegedly threatened her during negotiations, saying they had the protection of an influential person in the area.
She said she has sought media coverage hoping the publicity would help her obtain justice.
In a statement, Studio 7, Thailand's largest retailer of Apple products and part of the publicly traded Com7 group, said they have fired the erring staff and will take legal action against them.
The company said: 'We have clear and strict policies and procedures regarding the management of customer personal information. In the event that a customer brings a device for service at the store, the company prohibits employees from accessing or storing customer information under any circumstances. This is a strict requirement that all employees must strictly adhere to.
'We recognise the damage and impact caused to the customer and we have contacted them to apologise and take responsibility. We are ready to provide assistance, support, and coordination to the fullest extent possible.'
Studio 7 vowed to review security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
