Drunk Brit beaten up by locals after he 'attacking disabled person' in Thai red light district
A drunk Brit allegedly attacked a disabled person before being beaten up by locals in Thailand.
The tourist was seen outside bars appearing to fight with a Thai woman in the red light city of Pattaya in the east of the country on October 15.
The pair eventually separated, but the foreigner continued causing trouble, shoving passersby and shouting at people.
He then allegedly pushed a grandmother along the way whose arm was paralysed, prompting onlookers to intervene.
Footage shows locals surrounding the tourist before a scuffle broke out. One local headlocked him while others helped to pin him to the ground.
Police Lieutenant Sakayapat Chaidech, deputy inspector at Pattaya Police Station, said: ‘The suspect is a British man in his mid-30s. He drank a bottle of Korean soju. I don't know which restaurant he went to.
‘He said he was heartbroken and doesn't remember anything from last night or what he did.'
Before attacking the 50-year-old, he was seen manhandling the Thai woman he was with, grabbing her by the neck.
He also allegedly shouted 'f*** you all' to an onlooker who was taking a video of him before crossing to the other side of an intersection.
The video cut to a brawl where he was restrained by at least five men wearing uniforms of nearby establishments.
Police later arrived and he was handcuffed but he allegedly resisted arrest and spat on the officers.
Onlookers cheered and shouted when he was finally hauled to the back of police truck to be taken to the station.
The investigating officer added: ‘As for spitting at the police, we've already charged him with insulting an officer. But we'll wait to compile all the charges together as a single case, which should happen in a week or two.'
The police lieutenant said that the elderly woman the Brit allegedly assaulted has already filed a complaint and will see a doctor for a medical report, which will determine whether he will face a minor or serious offence.
Former fishing village Pattaya became popular with American troops on 'rest and relaxation' breaks in the 1950s and 1960s when the U.S. military had bases in Thailand while fighting Communism in Vietnam. Rural families are said to have even dressed their sons as women to cash in on the gold rush.
The handful of bars in the coastal town quickly grew and it is now the world's biggest sex holiday destination, with round-the-clock prostitution and drugs - a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah rife with crime and debauchery.
Government chiefs have attempted to clean up the city but regular violence, depravity and claims of corruption continue to blight its reputation.
