Locals protested in Hampshire over plans to house asylum seekers in new flats.

The demonstration follows the government's plan to accommodate at least 35 asylum seekers in housing units worth GBP 250,000 located above shops.

Reports said the proposed apartment includes space for couples, single parents with young children, and a single unit intended for a lone woman.

Footage captured by Mark Lambeth shows a large crowd gathered in opposition to the plan on Wednesday, July 30.

Mark said: 'Waterlooville says no to illegal migrant men, huge turnout!'

The event drew over 1,000 residents, many of whom carried placards, waved flags, and chanted slogans such as 'send them home!'.

One protester, Nicola Lattimer, said: 'We've had enough of the government – they're not listening to anybody.'

The Home Office has launched a consultation on the proposal, which is set to conclude on Friday.
