Phoenix, United States - August 09, 2025 08/09/2025 03:00 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) troopers responded to reports of a Toyota pickup truck driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the SR-51 near Shea Boulevard. DPS received multiple 911 calls as the driver continued south on the 51 at highway speeds. A short time later, a DPS trooper located the wrong-way driver near Thomas Road and the SR-51. The trooper attempted to block the pickup, but the driver continued past the patrol vehicle. The trooper performed a U-turn and approached the wrong-way pickup from behind. The trooper conducted a PIT maneuver on the pickup, causing the wrong-way driver to lose control. The pickup swerved across all lanes and crashed into the barrier wall near the right shoulder. Multiple troopers quickly surrounded the pickup and placed the driver, an adult male, into custody. No injuries were reported. A white sedan was seen stopped right near the scene. Troopers were seen making contact with the occupants of the sedan. The extent of the sedan's involvement is unclear.
