Palestine supporters defy terror ban at protest in London
Palestine supporters defied a government prohibition at a protest in London.
More than 600 activists gathered on Parliament Square on Saturday, August 9, to demonstrate against the UK government's terror ban on Palestine Action.
Organised by Defend Our Juries, the 'Lift The Ban' campaign seeks to overturn the measures imposed on the group.
Footage shows a sea of demonstrators, many holding cardboard signs reading, 'I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action'.
The Metropolitan Police reported that 466 protesters were arrested for supporting the group, including five for assaulting police officers, two for public order offences, and one for a racially aggravated offence.
No officers suffered serious injuries, and the Met confirmed that the number of arrests was the highest made by the force in a single day in the past decade.
Defend Our Juries condemned the restrictions as an infringement on democratic rights and pledged to continue their campaign, with a larger demonstration planned for September.
On June 20, Palestine Action claimed responsibility for an incursion into RAF Brize Norton, where two members allegedly broke in and spray-painted military aircraft used for refuelling and transport operations.
Palestine Action said in a statement: 'Despite publicly condemning the Israeli government, Britain continues to send military cargo, fly spy planes over Gaza, and refuel U.S./Israeli fighter jets.
'Britain isn't just complicit, it's an active participant in the Gaza genocide and war crimes across the Middle East.'
Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the incident.
He said: 'The act of vandalism committed at RAF Brize Norton is disgraceful. Our Armed Forces represent the very best of Britain and put their lives on the line for us every day.
'It is our responsibility to support those who defend us.'
