A fisherman was left horrified when a stray dog emerged from a rubbish dump carrying a plastic bag of human remains in Thailand.

Samrarn Yokyong, 56, was setting up fishing nets at a canal when his junior called him over to observe the canine dragging the suspicious bag from a nearby garbage heap in Samut Prakan.

The pair inspected the foul-smelling container and were shocked to discover half of a skull and more than 10 bone fragments covered in maggots inside on August 12. They called the police, who arrived at the overgrown two-acre wasteland at 7 am local time.

The area has been cordoned off for further investigations.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sayan Phuphanna of the Phra Pradaeng Police Station, said: 'We took photos and recorded the information in the daily log. Investigators were dispatched to gather evidence and find the person who discarded these body parts in this area.

‘The bones were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine to determine the identity and cause of death.'

Authorities believe the remains belonged to a child aged around 10 to 15.

Samrarn said: 'The dog had dragged a plastic bag from the rubbish heap and it smelled awful. When I opened it, I saw bone fragments and a skul.

'At first I thought it was resin, but then I realised it was real human remains. I called the police right away. I think someone from outside the area secretly dumped it here.'
