India: Amusement ride mishap leaves woman hanging mid-air, rescued amid questions over safety measures
Guwahati, India - August 09, 2025 A dramatic incident unfolded when a woman lost her balance due to the lack of basic safety arrangements in the swing and the negligence of employees while on a swing ride, and ended up hanging mid-air. The incident occurred in Yash Amusement Park, Meena Bazaar, Bhatpara, Balodabazar district, Chhattisgarh, central India, on August 9. Visuals from the spot show a Ferris wheel at the amusement area, where a woman is seen hanging mid-air after the ride reportedly malfunctioned. A helper can be seen climbing up to rescue her. Speaking to Newslions Media, Shashank Singh, SHO, Bhatpara Police Station, Chhattisgarh, said that the incident occurred on Saturday night and reportedly lasted for about an hour and a half, triggering outrage over the safety standards at the fair, but fortunately, due to the quick thinking and courage from those present, she was rescued without injury. According to the victim’s family, the mishap was caused by a lack of basic safety arrangements and alleged negligence by the ride operators. The woman’s relative, Triloki Kurre, lodged a written complaint at Bhatapara City Police Station, claiming that the swing’s staff were intoxicated and failed to apply the brakes, leaving the woman trapped in the ride for a prolonged period. Eyewitnesses said the woman suddenly lost her balance while the swing was in motion, causing her to slip from her seat and cling to the structure. Panic spread among visitors as they watched the scene unfold. A video released by the family after the incident shows the woman’s father accusing the Meena Bazaar management of serious negligence. Staff members, along with a young bystander, eventually reached the swing. While an employee continued to encourage the woman, the bystander carefully helped her down. Once she reached the ground safely, the crowd let out a collective sigh of relief. The video of the rescue captures the tense moments as the woman clung to the swing until help arrived. Witnesses noted that had the ride been operating at full speed, the consequences could have been far more severe. The incident has intensified concerns over safety arrangements at the Meena Bazaar, prompting calls for stricter inspections and stronger preventive measures to avoid such mishaps in the future. Authorities have been notified, and the family is demanding strict action against the ride operators and management. [Restriction:Not Distributable in Germany] * Exclusive Video rights
