A dramatic video has emerged of a rescue operation of at least 40 people, including women and children, after a ride developed a technical snag and left them stranded. The incident took place on Sunday midnight in Ahmedabad district of western India's Gujarat state.

Visuals showed fire fighters using a fire bridge to get near the stuck ride as people slowly climbed the bridge and were brought back to safety.

Reports said at least 14 children and eight women were among the ones rescued.

The ride was located in Sabarmati Riverfront, a waterfront in the city.

The fire brigade was reportedly alerted of the condition by a person who was stuck and was one among the rescued.

The ride, a ferris wheel, developed the snag mid air while at full speed.
