This is the amusing moment a man returned home to find his yard full of giant watermelons.

Mr Chi had been away for three months and was shocked to discover eight massive fruits growing in his front yard in Jiangsu, China.

Footage shows the visibly surprised man inspecting the round melons of various sizes before harvesting them.

He brought them inside and weighed each, with the largest reaching 10 kilograms (22 lbs) and the smallest about five kilograms (11 lbs).

Curious villagers soon gathered to see the unexpected crop, and the lad gladly sliced one open on the spot to share with everyone.

Mr Chi said: 'These fruits weren't planted intentionally. They might have sprouted from seeds that were casually spat out while eating watermelons last year.

'I later learned from a neighbour that my mother had been eating watermelons at the house and left the seeds on the ground. Heavy flooding probably washed the seeds into cracks in the cement.

'The watermelons ripened naturally, were very sweet and full of juice, although the skin was a bit thick.'
