Police rescue owners and pet dog from house fire in New York
This is the heroic moment police rescued homeowners and their pet dog from a house fire in New York.
Bodycam footage shows the emergency responders climbing over a fence before smashing a glass door to forcefully enter the burning home in Coney Island.
Officers from the New York City Police Department spotted smoke coming from West 36th Street near Canal Avenue while patrolling the neighbourhood on August 10 at around 11:40 am.
With help from locals, they quickly located the source of the fire. Flames were already engulfing part of the exterior wall when they arrived.
Police Officer Chris De Sciora said: 'There was no time to wait for the fire department. We heard the dog barking. We had to get in by any means possible. The back wall was going up quickly.'
Inside, Officers De Sciora and Andy Guo rescued two residents along with their golden labradoodle, bringing all to safety.
No injuries were reported for the residents, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Both officers were treated for smoke inhalation, while Guo also sustained a cut from shattered glass.
Authorities said: 'Our officers aren't just keeping crime down, they're responding to fires too!'
