Crowds gathered at the conservation center to catch a glimpse of Xin Xin, who has become a major attraction for families and tourists. Mirian Noguera, veterinarian and Xin Xin’s caregiver, said caring for the panda is both a responsibility and a passion. “It’s truly fascinating, it’s an honor, it’s a source of pride for me to be part of the team in charge of taking care of the health and well-being of the panda, the last Mexican panda in this Conservation Center,” she said. “Since it is already a geriatric specimen, we focus on daily check-ups in the morning and afternoon, always ensuring that her health remains stable.” Visitors also expressed their excitement. Claudia Bolanos, who traveled from Veracruz with her daughters, described the experience as unique. “We wanted to be able to receive this gift that life is giving us of being able to see Xin Xin in person,” she said. “It’s a gift, it’s tenderness, and being here with fewer people allows us to appreciate her, see her, and admire her more closely.” Born in 1990 at Mexico City’s Chapultepec Zoo, Xin Xin is the last surviving panda in Mexico and the only one in the world not owned by China, as her parents were gifted to Mexico by Beijing in the 1970s. She is now considered a geriatric panda and receives daily medical care, including routine health check-ups.
