Gazan baby with cerebral palsy succumbs to starvation
- KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE — AUG. 22, 2025: A 5-month-old Palestinian baby died of starvation and malnutrition in the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, on Friday, Aug. 22.
According to medics, starvation and severe malnutrition worsened the health of the baby, Ghadir Braika, who had been suffering from congenital diseases, including atrophy, encephalitis (brain inflammation), and cerebral palsy.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said at least 271 people, including 112 children, died of starvation and malnutrition in the Gaza Strip.
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees said Friday that famine in Gaza, deliberately created by the Israeli government, is confirmed, after also being formally confirmed by the UN-backed global hunger monitoring system IPC.
Israel has killed more than 62,100 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
