A council has ordered the owner of a Victorian water tower in Kent to clean it up (September 2).

Swale Council has given the London-based owner of a derelict water tower in Sheerness two months to secure the site and clean up the building or risk further action and costs.

Swale is requesting all windows are sealed, brickwork is cleaned, vegetation is cut back, rubbish removed and a security fence installed, otherwise the council will undertake the work itself and and submit the owner with the bill.

The building was originally built in 1862 over three wells to supply the Isle of Sheppey with water on behalf of the Sheerness Local Board of Health.
