US, Phoenix: Tempe 1 Critical After Red Light Runner Crashes With Sound On Tape
Phoenix, United States - September 07, 2025 09/07/2025 12:00 am GMT-0700 TEMPE, Ariz. – Tempe police and Tempe Fire Department responded to the intersection of Rural Road and University Drive for a serious traffic collision with injuries at midnight Sunday. Officers arrived on scene and located three cars that had collided in the intersection. According to Tempe Police Lieutenant Andrew Brooks, a Chrysler 300 was traveling northbound on Rural Road at a high rate of speed. As it approached University Drive, it ran the red light and crashed into two cars turning north onto Rural Road from eastbound University Drive. The force of the impact heavily damaged all three vehicles before the Chrysler crashed into the facade of a shopping plaza at the northeast corner of the intersection. Firefighters arrived on scene and began tending to the victims. A total of three people were transported, one of whom was listed in critical condition. The driver of the Chrysler, while being tended to by police and firefighters, became combative and was restrained by officers and firefighters. That man is under arrest following his release from the hospital, according to Lieutenant Brooks. The intersection is expected to remain closed for several hours as officers gather details of the collision and conduct their investigation.
