This is the shocking moment a large concrete pipe fell from the back of a truck in Thailand.

The vehicle was making a turn when one of the pipes tumbled from its trailer at a busy junction in Phuket.

CCTV footage shows the improperly fastened object slipping onto the rain-slicked tarmac on September 5.

No one was hit and oncoming vehicles avoided the obstruction. Subdistrict officials later rushed to the scene to clear the road.

Police said the truck driver has been identified and will be fined.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
