A bungling bull ended up with a blue bin stuck on its head while roaming a busy road in India.

Footage shows the black bovine wearing the large container as locals cautiously tried to help in Sikar, Rajasthan.

The beast repeatedly shook its head in an attempt to remove the bin but was unsuccessful, causing traffic delays on September 9.

A group of kindhearted residents worked together to free the animal, with one man using a hammer to help. The creature was finally released around 10 minutes later.

Locals said the bull was rummaging through the large plastic drum in search of food. It escaped unharmed and wandered away along the street,

In India, devout locals follow Hindu customs, with cows and bulls regarded as sacred animals that cannot be eaten or slaughtered once they have stopped producing milk. The majority of states ban the sale or slaughter of cows.

Instead of dealing with the economic burden of keeping their spent cattle, many farmers let the beasts roam the streets - leading to chaos when the animals become agitated and turn their fury on humans.
