Two-state solution irreversible historical trend: Palestinian foreign minister
Storyline: The two-state solution is an irreversible historical trend and the only viable way to achieve peace between Palestine and Israel, said Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian on Sunday. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Sunday announced that Britain has formally recognized the State of Palestine, affirming Britain's support for "the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination" and the two-state solution. Also on Sunday, Canada, Australia and Portugal announced their recognition of the Palestinian state. "The two-state solution is the only way to solve the Middle East issue and the Palestinian-Israeli issue. For us, the two-state solution is a very realistic choice, and the world must help us realize this solution. I believe that eventually the whole world will support the two-state solution, and support the Palestinian people in having the right to determine their own destiny and in living in a free, safe and independent country," said Varsen Aghabekian, Palestine's minister of state for foreign affairs and expatriates. She said the top priority for the Palestinian authority at this moment is to stop Israel's genocide moves and starvation in Gaza. "These recognitions of the State of Palestine didn't come out of thin air, but were achieved through the Palestinian people's sacrifice of blood, the cumulative work in diplomacy, and the Palestinian president's persistent efforts over the years. In the past, many people said that we were going against trend, but today we have seen that all our efforts will be reflected in the recognition of the United Nations. However, we must also very realistically understand that these recognitions are not the ultimate goal, but only a step that pushes us forward. Our ultimate goal is the establishment and full independence of the State of Palestine in reality," said the Palestinian foreign minister. "The recognitions of the State of Palestine bring strong legal status, help promote the two-state solution, and also send a clear signal to Israel that its fantasy of permanently occupying Palestine is difficult to realize and will never come true," she said.
