Italy - September 26, 2025 The 2025 Turin Auto Show inauguration was marked by a silent demonstration from Extinction Rebellion, as the Red Rebels appeared in Piazza Castello. Dressed in red and moving slowly and silently, the Red Rebels symbolically denounced the bloodshed caused by the climate crisis and the destruction of life. Their protest highlighted concerns over unsustainable mobility, social injustice, and companies profiting from operations in Israel and Palestine. “A Torino, città in cui l’inquinamento atmosferico dovuto al traffico provoca ogni anno centinaia di vittime e in cui migliaia di lavoratori dell’automotive affrontano licenziamenti e cassa integrazione, si inaugura un evento che celebra un modello di mobilità in netto contrasto con la necessità di una transizione verso una società più giusta e sostenibile,” said Extinction Rebellion. Turin is one of Europe’s most polluted cities, where traffic-related air pollution causes up to 900 premature deaths annually. Road transport produces 80% of nitrogen oxide and particulate emissions, while public transport funding has been cut in favor of large infrastructure and military spending. Extinction Rebellion also criticized companies reportedly profiting from Israeli occupation, including Hyundai, which through Hyundai Heavy Industries is linked to demolitions in Palestinian territories. “The Auto Show once again celebrates a model of development based on environmental, social, and human destruction,” said Extinction Rebellion. “The world we want is colorful and joyful, where cities are places to live, share, and care for, not showcases for tourists or profit for a few.”
