A university student was bitten by a monkey while walking along a popular trail in Thailand.

Pablo Hurtado Mullor, 22, was walking along the Monkey Trail in Mueang Krabi District with his friend Jaime Sánchez Cortina, 22, when the incident occurred.

A curious monkey approached the friends and climbed onto Jaime to check his bag, but bit him when it found nothing of interest.

Jaime was taken to a local hospital for treatment and rabies prevention.

Pablo, from Valencia, Spain, said: "The monkey climbed up to see what he had in the bag. When it realized there was nothing interesting, it bit my friend."

Tourists are warned that monkeys in the area are known to climb on visitors and may bite if they don't find food or other items they want.
