CCTV footage shows the resident walking along a narrow street with the horned beast trailing close behind in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Moments later, the bovine suddenly charged at her from behind, sending the unsuspecting woman flying through the air before she landed heavily on her stomach on September 29.

The animal then stood in front of the motionless victim as she slowly rolled onto her back.

Local media reported that the woman sustained serious injuries and is currently recovering in the hospital.

India has hundreds of thousands of cows roaming its streets.

It is party due to devout locals who follow Hindu customs, with cows regarded as sacred animals that cannot be eaten or slaughtered once they have stopped producing milk. The majority of states ban the sale or slaughter of cows.
