This is the shocking moment a muddy flash flood surged through homes in the Philippines.

Footage shows powerful murky waters rushing through a residential area in Pangantucan, Bukidnon, on Tuesday afternoon.

The strong current also swept away debris and household items in Poblacion village.

Ian Cagalitan from the Bukidnon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that 25 households, or 174 individuals, are currently staying at an evacuation centre.

He added that the Mulita River has reached a critical level, prompting authorities to issue mandatory evacuations in flood-prone areas.

No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is currently affecting the country, bringing rain to various parts of Mindanao.

The region's low-lying geography, inadequate drainage systems, and rapid urbanisation make it especially vulnerable to flooding. But the country's rudimentary infrastructure means it often struggles to handle the heavy rainfall, resulting in widespread flash floods.
