SHOTLIST TRABZON, TÜRKİYE (OCTOBER 20, 2025) (ANADOLU-ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS DRONE SHOTS OF SUMELA MONASTERY PERCHED ON CLIFF TRABZON, TÜRKİYE - OCTOBER 20: Anadolu drone on Monday, Oct. 20, captured the world-renowned Sümela Monastery in Türkiye’s Black Sea province of Trabzon, showcasing the historic site's majestic setting perched on a steep cliff. Also known as the Monastery of the Virgin Mary, the fourth-century monastic complex overlooks the lush Altindere Valley from its 300-meter (984-feet) perch on the side of Mount Karadag, where it is carved directly into the rock face. The monastery, a site on UNESCO's Tentative World Heritage List, has been a major focus of preservation efforts. It was reopened for religious practice in August 2010 after a hiatus of 88 years. In a significant recent development, centuries-old frescoes decorating the monastery's walls have been meticulously restored to their original splendor as part of a conservation project that began in May 2024. This latest effort follows a comprehensive restoration of the structure itself, which was completed before the site was reopened to visitors in July 2021 after more than five years of work.
