NORTH SUMATRA, INDONESIA – July 23, 2025 —
A dramatic vertical video captured the moment a massive fire engulfed a cooking oil factory in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia.

Filmed by Haris Alva from inside a moving car, the footage shows thick black smoke rising high above the factory of PT Agro Raya Mas, with flames visibly flickering behind the dark cloud. The intense heat and flammable materials inside the building made the fire rapidly spread.

The fire broke out around 4:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday on Mohammad Ilyas Street, in the Sei Mati area of Medan Labuhan district. Firefighters deployed 20 trucks to combat the blaze.

Panic swept the site as factory workers rushed out to escape. Several loud explosions were heard as the fire grew, but the exact source remains unclear.

"The initial fire appears to have started in a raw materials warehouse storing palm oil products like cooking oil and margarine," said local police chief Commissioner Tohap Sibuea.

By midnight, the fire had intensified, prompting nearby residents to evacuate. Damage is estimated in the billions of rupiah, though no casualties were reported thanks to a timely evacuation.
