Locals catch giant grouper fish using simple fishing technique
This is the moment locals caught a giant grouper using a simple fishing technique in Indonesia.
A group of residents was fishing casually from the shore with lines baited with raw fish in the Tapormai estuary area, Timika City, Central Papua, on Tuesday, October 28.
Moments later, one of the fishermen was taken by surprise when the gigantic sea creature snatched the bait from his line.
Excitement quickly spread along the beach as the community came together to help pull in the catch.
Resident Yully said: 'The people there used raw shark meat as bait. No one expected the fish they caught to be a giant grouper.'
Footage shows the fishermen straining as the enormous grouper is hauled onto the sandy shore.
Yully added: 'It probably weighed more than 80 kilograms. The community was very happy, and the fish meat was distributed to the villagers.
'Actually, I caught two fish at the time, but I didn't have time to film the other one because I was busy with other activities.'
The giant grouper is one of the largest reef-dwelling fish in the world, known for its huge size and powerful build.
Groupers can weigh hundreds of kilograms and are prized both as a food source and for sport fishing. They are found in tropical and subtropical waters and are often spotted around coral reefs and estuaries.
