China: Integrated computing network powers breakthroughs in China's digital push
Storyline: Integrated computing network powers breakthroughs in China's digital push [Voice_over] As countries around the world embrace the digital age, China is actively building it, one byte at a time. Considered the second most powerful in the world in terms of computing power, China’s digital infrastructure is world class in terms of scale and technology. Statistics from the National Data Administration show that in the past five years, the number of 5G base stations in the country has grown to more than 4.5 million, while the number of gigabit broadband users has grown to some 226 million. It's all part of a strategic national plan known as Eastern Data-Western Computing Project, which was launched during the 14th Five-year Plan from 2021 to 2025. The project aims to channel computing resources from heavily populated eastern regions, where storage facilities are filling up, to the country's less developed yet resource-rich western regions, where clean energy and space is abundant. To date, the government has established eight national computing hubs and ten data center clusters. More than 60 percent of Chinese cities can connect to a computing power cluster within five milliseconds. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced earlier this year that the country plans to realize millisecond-level access to computing resources in cities by 2027. That means the connection delays between computing centers and some key areas like industrial parks and hospitals will be reduced to under 1 millisecond. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
