Storyline Cross-regional computing project fuels China's high-quality development over past five years During China's 14th Five-Year Plan period from 2021-2025, the country has successfully advanced it's 'Eastern Data-Western Computing Project' in which large data centers in sparsely populated western China provide stable and, increasingly, green computing services for the country's heavily populated eastern regions. Those large data centers in the west provide enough power for rendering, large language model training, and quantum computing, and are part of a vast integrated network that lets more than 60 percent of cities in China get access to a computing cluster within 5 milliseconds. There are more than 30 cities that have emerged as "computing hubs" across the country, with 10 national computing clusters and several national computing hub nodes. Data shows that China's western data centers contributed to more than 70 percent of the country's computing capacity growth in the past five years, while the project's hub nodes accounted for around 80 percent of intelligent computing capacity. Today, China ranks second in the world both in total computing capacity and intelligent computing capacity. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
