Rescue team saves boy with foot trapped in mall escalator
Rescue teams saved a boy with his foot trapped in a shopping mall escalator in Malaysia.
Alif Ziqri, 9, was shopping with his mother Nabilah Farhana when his right foot was swallowed by the moving steps.
The youngster screamed in pain as the sharp comb plate tore up his toes before another shopper pressed the emergency stop button.
Medics and rescuers later arrived at the MyTown Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur to free Alif.
Footage shows the boy being wheeled into an ambulance to receive stitches at a nearby hospital.
Speaking about the ordeal that happened on September 5, Nabilah said: 'Until now, I've only heard stories, but it happened to me when Ziqri's foot got stuck in the Mytown escalator.
‘He was wearing Crocs at the time, it could be unsafe in certain situations due to the shoes' grip. In the blink of an eye, his foot was already stuck.
'It was really chaotic. I asked the person in front to press the stop button near the escalator.
'Thank you very much to the firemen and staff of MyTown for acting quickly. If he had been stuck longer, I don't know what would have happened.'
Nabilah confirmed that nothing was broken, but the wound was deep.
She added: 'Ziqri is scheduled for an operation. Thank you to everyone who prayed for his recovery.
‘What happened to my child is not for us to argue about, whether he was wearing genuine rubber shoes or not. The Crocs he was wearing were just the cause, but if it was meant to happen, it would have happened even in slippers.
'Let's learn to be more careful, especially with small children.'
Nabilah later shared in an update that Ziqri's foot has been stitched, and she hopes for a smooth recovery.
The incident occured two weeks after a two-year-old boy was injured in a similar escalator accident.
The toddler had also been wearing Crocs when his foot was caught in the mechanism at a mall in Kedah on August 23. He was rushed to a hospital, where he reportedly underwent surgery for his wounds.
