Soldier injured when parachute fails to open properly in training jump
A soldier was injured when his parachute failed to open properly during a training jump.
The officer leaped from a C-130 tactical aircraft alongside his colleagues during a military exercise held at IMIP Private Airport in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, on November 20.
High-ranking officials, including Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Indonesian National Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto, attended the event.
However, what was meant to display military skill instead turned into an emergency rescue mission.
Footage shows the troops exiting the back of the plane. While all other parachutes deployed normally, one remained deflated.
The soldier fell rapidly to the ground, alarming onlookers in uniform who rushed toward him.
As his colleagues landed safely, soldiers rushed to his aid and carried out a prompt rescue.
Marine Major General Freddy Ardianzah said: ‘Yes, a soldier was injured because the parachute did not deploy properly.'
The cause of the parachute failure is still under investigation, but the major said that the soldier is recovering from the fall.
He added: ‘The soldier's condition is currently improving. The health team has moved quickly.'
