Four holidaymakers were killed and one remains missing after a powerful wave crashed onto a seawater pool in Spain.

The group had been at a popular natural pool along the rocky western coastline of Tenerife when the surging water suddenly swept them away.

Other visitors at the pool immediately raised the alarm, prompting authorities to launch a rapid rescue operation.

Emergency responders deployed jet skis and helicopters during the search on Sunday, recovering the bodies of two men and one woman.

A fourth individual died on Monday after being revived at the scene and airlifted to the hospital.

Authorities have not released further details about the victims' identities.

Footage shows rough seas battering the pool as tourists stand in the water, while another clip captures a rescue helicopter circling the area.

Local media reported that a weather advisory for dangerous sea conditions was in effect when the swimmers were swept into the water.

Residents said signs and fencing had been installed to prevent access to the pool due to the hazardous waves, but some visitors had ignored the warnings.

The pool on Tenerife's Los Gigantes coast is a popular spot for foreign visitors. Set between volcanic rock and a low concrete barrier, it sits close to sea level, allowing waves to surge over the wall during rough seas and creating a risky environment.
