US, Los Angeles: Van Nuys Female Child Injured in Alleged Kidnapping Attempt

Los Angeles, United States - January 05, 2026 01/05/2026 12:50 am GMT-0800 VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Los Angeles police officers with the Van Nuys Division responded to an initial call of an attempted kidnapping in the 14400 block of Vanowen Street. A mother was reportedly walking her dog with her 9-year-old daughter when a man approached and grabbed the child, slamming her against a wall, according to initial information. The family dog allegedly intervened, biting the man's hand and causing him to flee the scene. Officers searched the area and located a possible suspect, but the victims were unable to positively identify him, according to information at the scene. Officer Lee, a spokesperson for the LAPD, told Key News Network that a private person's arrest was made for battery and that officers ruled out a kidnapping attempt. Lee confirmed the child was female, but could not verify her age. The Los Angeles Fire Department evaluated the child for reports of pain. No further details are available at this time.
