[Voiceover] "Lights, cameras, digital tools!" China's micro-drama boom is revolutionizing not just actors and audiences, but every level of production of theses bite-sized stories, as well. At one film studio in the southern tech hub of Shenzhen, film crews use a handheld scanner to make a 3D rendering of a potential filming location, which helps keep scouting costs low. [Soundbite] Zhao Ran, domestic market manager, Shenzhen Qiyu Innovation Technology Co., Ltd.: "The blue line indicates the path we're taking. If any area hasn't been fully captured and requires more details, we simply go there." [Voiceover] Meanwhile, some of the country's most advanced virtual studios, which had mainly served film and TV programs, are now shifting their focus to short dramas. [Soundbite] Hou Yu, Sales Director, Shenzhen Showho Technology Co.,Ltd.: "Digital assets are much cheaper than physical sets in terms of production cost. Scenes like snow mountains, oceans, and overseas locations can all be created by digital means. The short drama market is booming, with a huge audience. That's why we're taking measures to drag down the cost to cater to the demand of micro-drama production." [Voiceover] The scale of China's micro drama market hit about 7 billion U.S. dollars last year, exceeding the annual movie box office revenue for the first time in history.
