This is the shocking moment an alleged drink driver crashed into a karaoke bar, leaving seven people injured in Thailand.

Charan Sanitnoi, 56, reportedly drank beer before driving back home in Samut Prakan province, on the outskirts of Bangkok, on January 6.

His BMW was said to have lost control, screeching across the road and ploughing through the wall of the music venue, where hostesses and customers were enjoying a night of merriment.

Police arrived at the scene at around 11:55 pm local time, where they found the damaged sedan stuck inside the bar decorated in hot-pink furniture and wallpaper.

The shattered remains of several wooden chairs and tables, and a wooden gate next to the entrance, also littered the floor.

Officers said four women and three men were injured, including two hostesses rescued from under the sedan. All seven individuals were taken to a hospital for treatment and did not suffer serious injuries.

During questioning, the driver, Charan, allegedly suffered chest pains and also had to be rushed to the hospital.

He reportedly smelled of alcohol, with glassy eyes and barely able to stay on his feet.

He allegedly admitted to drinking beer before driving, and claimed to have lost control along a bend, despite the road being straight.

Police said Charan faces 'serious legal action' pending the results of his blood alcohol test.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
