This is the heroic moment a group of tourists joined together to push a crashed bus back up a hillside.

A family was celebrating an upcoming wedding when the electric bus, carrying seven passengers, ascending a section of Scott Hill, reportedly swerved off the road, hitting five holidaymakers in Baguio, the Philippines.

Onlooker Karen Dasalla recalled that they heard a loud bang, prompting the men in her group and other picnic-goers to rush towards the bus as victims pinned under the vehicle screamed in pain at Camp John Hay.

Dramatic footage shows men alongside security guards pushing the vehicle in unison as family members wail, haplessly watching their relatives being rescued on January 16.

Moments later, emergency responders and an ambulance arrived at the scene, joining the rescue operation.

After a laborious effort to lift the white bus, the group managed to pull out the victims, including one elderly woman who died on the spot.

Cries from the bereaved family echoed through the forest as they retrieved the body of the pensioner.

A truck-mounted crane was then used to remove the vehicle from the area.

Karen said: 'This accident happened right across from us. The driver fell asleep, allegedly. There was a bang, and then everyone ran towards the bus.

'I am deeply moved by how these boys went without hesitation, lifting the bus with no fear for their own safety. Others even sustained wounds from the broken window, but they did not stop pushing and lifting the bus.

'My heart broke for the family. They were here as tourists, celebrating a wedding just the day before. They were already on their way home when this happened, I heard. Their mother died on the spot.'

Local media reported that six individuals sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital for further medical care.

Police arrested the bus driver, 52, as an investigation is currently underway.

Manjit Singh Reandi, the President and CEO of the John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC), said: 'We are conducting an assessment and investigation of the matter. We are closely coordinating with the Philippine National Police and CBSTC.'
