This is the dramatic moment police officers rescued a car that was trapped in the snow in Louisville.

Footage shows a sedan stranded under a thick layer of fresh powder on Sunday, as an emergency responder uses a shovel to clear snow and accidentally strikes the camera.

The officers were later seen pushing the car to help it escape the heavily covered road.

A spokesman from the Louisville Metro Police Department jokingly said: 'One of our GoPros was assaulted by an officer with a shovel. Everything's 10-86. Side note, listen to the motorist absolutely mash the gas pedal as he gets unstuck. Sir, you shouldn't be out here, and you know it.'

Authorities urged drivers to avoid non-essential travel, reduce speed, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and stay updated on road conditions during severe winter weather.
