CONTAINS NUDITY: A Norwegian tourist allegedly high on cannabis was arrested over a naked stroll along a crowded beach in Thailand.

The male holidaymaker sparked alarm when he stripped and walked around nude along the sane in Pattaya at 1am local time.

Footage shows shocked beachgoers fleeing as the man approached them with his genitals on full display on January 22.

Seemingly in a cannabis-induced daze, he continued parading his body in front of stunned tourists before clothing himself again when someone threatened to call the police.

Officers later arrived and found the intoxicated Norwegian calmly drinking alcohol with strangers as if nothing had happened. They then grilled him, presenting the clip as evidence.

The man allegedly admitted he had been drinking beer and smoking cannabis, which is legal but controlled in the country. He claimed he 'did not know what he was doing' and had only gone for a swim without harming anyone.

Instead of paying the 5,000-baht (118 GBP) fine for obscenity, the man was released with a verbal warning.

When confronted and shown video footage filmed by another tourist, the man admitted the naked display was him, but claimed he had no idea what he was doing.

He told police he had been drinking and smoking cannabis and had only intended to go for a swim, insisting he had not harmed anyone.

Onlooker Thapakorn Saengtawan, 36, said the man appeared disoriented and drunk, causing fear among beachgoers.

He said: 'He walked around naked showing off his body. People were shocked and scared. He then went into the sea as if it were his private pool.

'When someone threatened to call the police, he returned to the water and put his clothes back on.'

Police warned the Norwegian he would be detained if he is reported again for inappropriate behaviour.

Thailand decriminalised marijuana in 2022, making it the first Asian nation to do so.

However, the lack of regulations caused a surge in unregulated sales and use, especially in tourist areas like Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya.

Government officials are seeking to curb recreational cannabis use by requiring a medical certificate to purchase the drug.
