Naked tourist casually walks through shops leaving locals in disbelief
This is the bizarre moment a brazen tourist casually walked naked through a restaurant in Thailand.
The seemingly dazed holiaymaker shocked onlookers when he strolled past tables and sat without any clothes at the brightly lit patio on the bustling holiday island Phuket on December 7 evening.
CCTV footage shows the tourist - seen in the video wearing a watch and holding his phone - sauntering past people as he walked barefoot on the artificial turf next to a busy road.
Customers and staff initially appeared not to notice him, before a security guard at a nearby hotel arrived and told him to put clothes on. The man was seen being ushered away by the guard without resisting.
Local media reported that he had allegedly been drunk during the incident. He has reportedly checked out of his accomodation and has left Thailand.
British tourist Matthew Branagan, who was sitting with relatives at one of the tables, said: 'I had to take a double look. The guy was stark naked.
'It was all a bit surreal. I thought the waitress might tell him to leave but they looked over and didn't do anything. A security guard came and took him out, but he just let him walk along the street in the nude.
'The waitress said the guy was drunk, which doesn't really explain it.'
Outraged locals blamed the Thai government's free visa policy for the influx of 'low-quality tourists' in the country. The scheme was implemented to boost income from Thailand's tourism industry.
According to Thai laws, the tourist can face charges for violating Section 388 of the Criminal Code on public obscenity, which carries a fine of up to 500 baht.
There have been several incidents involving foreigners being found naked in various areas of Phuket.
On March 5, an Italian man was discovered lying naked on the floor in front of a Buddha statue in the sermon hall of a temple.
On June 6, a British man, Philip Raymond North, a 32-year-old from Liverpool, was sunbathing naked and sipping tea outside a convenience store near a school.
On August 21, a foreigner was seen standing naked inside a cannabis shop, proudly displaying his genitals.
On September 8, a male tourist sparked outrage when he was found scratching his genitals on the second-floor balcony of a hotel.
