A viral campaign has been launched in Cumbria to #fixtheA591 - the main North South trunk road in the Lake District.

The stretch of the road between Windermere and Keswick, voted Britain's Favourite Road, has suffered serious damage due to the recent floods.

The road has been split into two at Thirlmere, just north of Grasmere. Both Grasmere & Keswick are open, but what used to take 20 minutes to get from one village to the other, now takes 1 1/2 hours and is a 58 mile trip.

The 29.8 mile stretch between Kendal and Keswick was also named the UK's best driving road, according to a specially devised driving ratio formulated by car rental firm Avis

People are sharing the video message showing the damaged road using the #fixtheA591 hashtag. The campaigners have set up a Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/GrasmereVillage/
