A truck fell into a massive sinkhole that suddenly opened up beneath in northern China.

Shocking CCTV footage filmed in Yuncheng City in Shanxi Province on October 6 shows the road beneath a truck's rear wheels suddenly giving way, causing the vehicle to pitch forward and almost somersault into the gaping abyss, leaving its front wheels hanging precariously in the air.

Onlookers rushed to the scene, gathering around the edge of the sinkhole to communicate with the driver and ensure he was safe.

The cavity formed by the sinkhole appears to be roughly two metres deep. Inside the chasm, an unsettling mix of soil, cables, and other debris is clearly visible. Besides the truck, several three-wheelers parked along the road were not spared either – they slipped into the pit, ending up in a messy pile.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the lorry was safely hoisted out later that day, and, miraculously, the driver emerged largely unscathed.

On October 7, a representative from the Sun Ji Town government stated that no injuries resulted from the shocking event. "The driver was not harmed, and all nearby residents are safe and sound. Everything is alright," the representative reassured.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
