Animal Quarantine Officer in West Sumatra, Indonesia, successfully fails smuggling of Giant Brown Tortoise (Manouria emys) at Minangkabau International Airport (BIM), regency of Padang Pariaman. The Giant Brown Tortoise also known as the Asian forest tortoise or Asian brown tortoise.

Vandy Junesa, a Technical and Supervisory Officers Class I Padang, Sunday (24/09/2017) said, smuggling perpetrated by the perpetrator with the mode of delivery of goods through the delivery of packets that have been wrapped into a box/ cardboard with a document bearing the spare part of the vehicle. The officers managed to find out after suspect the contents of packets read by X-Rays at airports with conditions like living things.

"The package is planned to be sent offenders to the city of Bandung, we managed to secure the evidence on September 22, 2017 at 18:30 pm, but the perpetrators were not obtained because the address and the sender is fake," Vandy said.

It will coordinate with the BKSDA related to the protected animals, while for the perpetrators will coordinate with the police to conduct further investigation.

The perpetrator violated the Quarantine Law no. 16 of 1992 concerning the quarantine of fish and plants and PP. 15 of 2002 concerning animal and plant quarantine.

Because the length is almost 40 cm, it is likely that the purchase price has reached millions of rupiah.

The condition of the preserved protected animals is in good condition. Officers are still doing rehabilitation related to this nocturnal animal health.
