Footage has emerged of an explosion at a power station in Raebareli
that killed 32 and injured over 100 workers.

The video, shot by a worker on November 1 from the inside of the power plant, shows a boiler going up in flames and steam gushing out.

Workers can be heard shouting in the background as smoke fills the area.

NTPC, India’s leading power producer, has shut down the unit, where the explosion occurred. The other five units of the station are operating normally.

The causes of the blast haven't been confirmed yet.

NTPC officials also sought to defend their safety record in off-the-record interaction with the media. They said accidents had been a rarity at their power stations.

Many workers of the affected NTPC plant went on a protest against the management on November 2. They said the temperature has been steadily rising at the furnace, but the management had ignored their warning.

The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a compensation of Rs.2 lakh for the families of the dead and Rs. 50,000 for the badly injured.
