A security camera in Dranesville, Virginia has captured the dramatic moment a van smashed through a garden fence into a parked truck.

According to the owner of the truck, the accident caused more than 20-thousand dollars of damage to his home and vehicle but he has recouped only a tiny fraction of that money because the owner of the vehicle had no insurance.

The incident took place in 2016 but the video has only recently surfaced online.

The driver smashed into my truck, house and my neighbor's house going over 50 miles an hour. He had left a party and was driving but the owner of the van was in the passenger seat and would have probably died - he was not wearing a seat belt - on impact if the dashboard of the van hadn't been so high. The driver was an illegal immigrant who ran off at the scene and as far as I know has yet to be caught. The people you see in the video surrounding the van were friends of the driver who were following him after the party.
The van totaled my truck and caused over $20,000 damage to my house and about the same amount to my neighbor's house. My outdoor staircase, railing and landscaping all had to be replaced. The passenger who is also the owner of the van didn't have insurance or the van registered under him. The driver also claimed that he doesn't know the driver of the van and that he was just one of the many living in the same house. The van owner only got two tickets for the no proof of insurance and improper plates. The detective told me a few days after that I really shouldn't take him to court as it would have just cost me additional money and in the end he wouldn't be able to pay me for my loses. My insurance company who holds my home and multi-vehicle policy claimed my after market parts weren't covered under my policies so they only paid for the stock value of the truck and the home damage. They didn't pay for any of the additional parts I put on the vehicle. At the end occupants of the van walked away without any recourse and I walked away with all the loss. The sad part is if it was me holding information on the whereabouts of the driver I would most likely be in major legal problems with the police and I am a tax paying citizen in this area.

After months an insurance company contacted me stating that they represent the van owner but he didn't have sufficient coverage so they gave me a little over $1K out of the over $20k I lost out of pocket due to this incident.
