Bird with strange looking bill pulverises frog

Buy video

Meet the bird with the most odd and unusual looking bill in the whole of Africa. Amusingly enough this bird is known as the African spoonbill. Spoonbills have unique bills which are spatulate in shape. The rounded disc at the end is used to filter mud to get at small fish, frogs and other small invertebrates. It forages by sweeping the bill from side to side while slightly submerged under the water. The video show the spoonbill moving his bill through the water and suddenly comes across a decent size meal in the form of a frog. The bird grabs the frog and starts to shake it around and biting it repeatedly in an attempt to pulverise and kill his newly found tasty meal. He moves the frog up and down his bill to rotate his grip on the frog. Once the spoonbill decided that its meal was prepared enough, the frog was gulped down very quickly. Great day for this amusing looking bird but not so great for the frog.
