Man travelling on rooftop Electrocuted in India
In a bizarre incident reported at Ghatkopar railway station Mumbai India , a rooftop traveller was electrocuted after he began walking from the roof of one compartment to the other waving to passengers on the platform. He sustained grievous burn injuries after his hand came in contact with the high-voltage overhead lines and was thrown off the roof.
The incident occurred at about 1:45 pm on Tuesday on a Kalyan-CST slow local that had just entered Ghatkopar railway station. The unidentified man who was seated on the roof of the train got up and began walking from one compartment towards the other while the train was halted at Ghatkopar station. Sub-Inspector of Ghatkopar post of RPF, Brijesh Singh said, “While he was walking on the rooftop, he was waving to those on the platform and as he raised his hand it came in contact with the Overhead Equipment (OHE). He was thrown away and fell in the nulla between the two tracks.”
A constable from Government Railway Police (GRP) BA Palvi rushed him to Rajawadi hospital in an auto-rickshaw as no ambulance was available. He sustained grievous burn injuries on his left side but survived and is being treated at Rajawadi Hospital. There was a loud noise with sparks and smoke which created panic among train commuters. Passengers who were seated in the compartment rushed out in fear. The incident led to the detention of train for four minutes.
